UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENT PROGRAMME
My name is Regina Figaredo, and I have the pleasure of being your Chair in the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) committee in CancunMUN 2020, alongside my Co-chair, Sofia Moreno. I am 16 years old, and I’m currently a junior at the International American School of Cancun. In my free time, I enjoy drawing, watching movies, traveling, and hanging out with friends. When I graduate, I would like to study environmental chemistry in Europe.
I have attended two CancunMUN conferences, one as a page and one as a delegate. I participated in the committee of UN Women, and I was nervous at the beginning, but I ended up learning new things and enjoying the debate. I chose UNEP because topics concerning the environment interest me.
I expect each delegate to come prepared with information and ready to debate. Don’t be nervous about speaking. The point of debating is to have fun and to represent your country in the best way possible. It is crucial to use credible sources for your information and to not only rely on the background guide.
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact me at or you can contact the secretariat team at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I can’t wait to see you in November! Good luck delegates!
Welcome to the 17th CancunMUN annual conference and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) committee. My name is Sofia Moreno, and I have the pleasure of being your Co-chair, alongside my Chair and dear friend, Regina Figaredo, in this year’s conference. I am 16 years old and currently a junior in the International American School of Cancun. During my free time, I enjoy going outside with my friends and family, drawing, cooking, reading, and writing. I am very passionate about traveling, meeting new people, and learning about new cultures and languages.
In the past, I have participated as a delegate in UNICEF and UN Women, and it was memorable to listen to other's ideas, knowing that they can have a positive impact on the world. Model United Nations is an opportunity to meet new people, give solutions to different issues, and to develop public speaking abilities, leadership, and teamwork. I chose UNEP because matters regarding the environment are affecting the world we live in nowadays, and I am eager to listen to your proposals.
I expect all delegates to have respectful and professional conduct during the conference, remain true to their country's position, and do their best to participate. Do not be afraid to speak publicly. Remember that other people may be nervous as well. The purpose of this conference is to have a good time and learn. All delegates should come prepared to debate. Remember to research information from reliable sources; background guides should not be your only source of information.
If you have any questions, you can contact me personally at or the Secretariat team at . See you in November! Best of luck, delegates!
